NATO Secretary General Writes in Financial Times About Continuing to Support Ukraine

Jens Stoltenberg has written an opinion piece in the Financial Times this week explaining the NATO position on Ukraine and asking for further patience and support in order for Ukraine to win this war. In the piece, Mr Stoltenberg, the NATO Secretary General warns that it is going to be a tough winter ahead for all in Europe, but this will not compare to what Ukraine will be suffering as they will be dealing not only with the rise in energy prices being faced by all, but also fighting for their very existence.

He makes it clear that continued unwavering support for Ukraine is a price worth paying for the future safety and security of Europe and all NATO allies. He confirmed that he would be attending the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting this week in order to send a very clear message about where NATO stands on this matter.

In the piece he emphasizes that, "Our nations are seizing this opportunity to diversify our economies and energy supplies, strengthen our resilience and break free of Russia’s energy blackmail for good.

At the same time, we are making the most fundamental shift in NATO’s deterrence and defence since the cold war, significantly enhancing our presence on the eastern flank, putting hundreds of thousands of troops on higher readiness and continuing to invest in cutting-edge capabilities. NATO’s security guarantees leave no room for miscalculation in Moscow about our ability to defend every inch of alliance territory. At the same time, they enable allies to support Ukraine’s right to self-defence.

Soldiers in the snow

There are tough times ahead, but we have faced tough times together before. The cost of not standing up for our values is always greater. For Ukraine’s future and for ours, we must prepare for the winter war and stay the course.”

As winter approaches, Ukraine’s frontline defenders will need even more support and assistance. If you would like to donate to Unite With Ukraine and help the defenders of Ukraine to keep fighting for their lives and Ukraine’s freedom please spread the word and share www.unitewithukraine.com.
